Hey guys
Two weeks ago on the Monday I did a very long ride, the longest I have ever done, 115 km.
Then the day after that I did 65 km including the col de Joux plaine ( probably one of the hardest climbs in the Alps) which I did in just under an hour.
The day after that I went with my club and did an easy climb. We were going at 20 km per hour and I said to my self " I can go much faster " and that is when I attacked! I pulled away and looked behind and there was no one to be seen.
On that Friday I went to do a nice ride with my dad up to col de Saxel and came back down a different way than usually and we found this 15% climb of about 1.50 km long.
The next day my dad and I went to find our time trial route that we are doing as a team in a race in September. Then, as it was only15 km away from the 15% climb I asked my dad if we could have a go at it. And we got up it standing up the whole time, after that my dad said that he had tried that climb a few years ago and he had to turn around and go back down.
On that week I did 425 km.
Last week I was determined to keep up the training. I stayed mostly on our local roads and tried to do lots of sprints and short hills. On Wednesday dad and I cycled into Geneva and had a very nice croque monsieur by the lake . But, unfortunately , as we were about halfway home my chain snapped and we had to get mum to come and rescue us.
She wasn't too happy because she twisted her ankle recently and tore a ligament so is not really able to drive.
Dad was away working but I made myself do 45 mins every day . I need to be doing more than that really.
Yesterday I had my most successful race to date. Man, it was tough, and extremely hot. The course was mostly flat with a 200m killer hill and a fast descent after it. It was very windy too. We had to do 18 laps making a total distance of 36km.
I had to start at the back as I hadn't pre registered and the champion of Holland , and the champion of the Sud de France were in the line up. A couple of the best guys from Haute Savoie didn't show up but the field included the under 16 girls too.
The race started steadily and everyone stayed together for 2 laps ( apart from a few who fell off the back ).
Then there was a break on the fast descent which I missed. I decided I had to chase them even if it killed me.
I absolutely gave 100% and managed to catch 2 others who were about 100m behind the leading group of 6.
We chased as hard as we could but were never able to catch the leaders but we increased the gap behind us so the riders behind never caught up.
I finished 7th of the boys, and 9th overall. The Dutch champion came 5th.
It was an awesome race , I was very pleased I made the break and got my first top 10 overall.
I felt really strong and I know my training is working even though we don't really know what we are supposed to be doing.
I'm going to try and do 1 long ride every week , and then try and increase my sprinting and power up the hills.
Total last week 190km.
