Hey guys.
This week school restarted after the 2 week holidays the frenchies gave us.
Today I did a race in Divonne and finished 23rd of 66 people even after I had to go in the grass because 2 girls had a crash right in front of me only 100 metres after the start. I had to go crazy to catch up with the 2nd group but by then the front group had already got away. I had hoped to get in the front group with the older guys and hang on as best I could but I think I still managed to finish 2nd from the 1st year racers (1997).
There was a normal race and, afterwards, 2 sprint races, I won my sprint races and like I said I came in the top half in the main race.
The races are organised like this. All the clubs from the 3 departments compete. Each department is like an english county. There are 100 departments in all of France.
The host team starts along the front row, and the other teams take turns to line up behind.
I am in "minimes" which is for all those born in 97 and 96. So I am always the youngest.
The strongest guys race for the win, and there are always a few who are just happy to finish. The races are a maximum of 30km. Next week is a hilly race which I hope to do well in because I am quite good at climbing!
Total of 96km this week.
Tom!!!

Very best wishes,

ReplyDeleteI think I'll go back to English. I can't really speak French, nor am I much better when it comes to reading or writing.
ReplyDeleteWhen you add up the distance you cycle each week, do you add the training you do indoors at home? That must be quite a distance from what I've seen. Perhaps you could keep a running total of everything in your blog. You've already done 520km according to your last 3 posts; I haven't included Lanzarote.
Good luck in your next race, in the hills. We'd probably call them mountains in the UK. Is that a more tactical competition? I'd guess that the race will be won on the uphill sections. They look extremely hard when I watch them on television. Then again, controlling a bike downhill must require a lot of skill at the sort of speed you'll be doing. Grandma says 'don't fall off'.
Good luck and let us know if you become 'King of the Hills.' I hope the weather improves for you too. The forecast here is for a frost tonight. It's quite a shock because we've just had 2 weeks of lovely weather.
Best wishes,
Andy.
Hi Tom.
ReplyDeleteWell done. You seem to have had a much better week. I hope the girls who crashed were OK.
Keep it up and you will soon have a first place.
Was your Dad in the race as well?
Love Grandma.
